From 1st April almost all banks are imposing charges for Not maintaining minimum balance in savings accounts.
In metro cities minimum balance for private banks is Rs.10000 and others Rs.5000. Charges for non maintenance is from Rs.100 to Rs.700 per month. If you have more than one bank account It might be tough to maintains minimum balance.
The alternative is you can convert all your non-primary bank accounts to No Frills / Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA) savings account.
All banks must have these zero balance accounts mandated by RBI in 2014. Visit your branch to convert accounts to BSBDA savings account.
It is not PMJDY account, and no limitation on number of accounts one can have of this type. Free ATM Card
